Switched from honor 8 to mate 9 pro for the exact same reason. Have had it for 3 days now and i love it more than anything I've previously had. Get one. You wont be disappointed. :)

Having the same problem as Mrhettrich. Allowing "display on lock screen" -option doesn't unfortunately change anything. Have tried various of other stuff too but nothing seems to help. Edit: I was able to get the lock screen controls temporarily by listening to spotify via computer and pausing...
