During the NumberSync setup process, I have it set to Always On. After NumberSync is done, I change it to Auto On/Off.

I have a Galaxy S8+. All I did was follow the steps in the Gear app on the phone when setting up the watch for the first time.

Auto works fine.

Check your notification settings in the Samsung Gear App. Make sure you have all the apps you want to receive notifications from enabled. Also, the Gear will not display text messages and emails unless the built-in apps are set as default on the phone.

Sadly, it does not work that way. But, you can go to the store and get the lines switched.
