Not that I know of. There may be some music apps that allow it, but stock Google Music app doesn't. I don't think Winamp does either. With Cyanogen working with Samsung and Google using so many of his ROM's features in ICS that skipping songs with the volume buttons would be included too...

I can't answer your question for sure, but a buddy of mine has an 09 BMW (can't remember model number) and it won't read the address book for his fascinate either. he's tried multiple ROMS and kernels but none seem to work properly.

you can go right from 1.3 to 2.0 ( after backups and wiping and all that fun stuff). If you use the 2.0 with no kernel, you'll be using the same kernel you used on 1.3. Or you could try one of the 2.0 ROMs that come with a different kernel.
