Re: Notifacations What phone do you have? For my note 3 I can open settings> device> sounds> scroll down to the Samsung applications and there's an option for messages. You can toggle off the vibrate and choose silent for the ring tone but leave on notifications to get the icon on your bar.

Thank you. I do and it mostly fixes what happens. It's just frustrating to check my data and notice this big spike one day. Being able to restrict data without turning on airplane mode was a big appeal to my old iphone.

Is there a way to completely restrict an app to wifi? I've checked for background data to be restricted but apparently that doesn't cover an app being opened accidentally (like in a pocket or bag) and streaming music silently for an hour.
