Look at the other thread of Hardware Id Missing error and particularly the comments by dsvendee as it worked for me with an S2 & Vista.

I'm very grateful to dsvendee for the link. it has worked for me using a Galaxy S2 and Windows Vista home premium. Therefore don't be put off by the Driver label of Windows 7 and Galaxy S3. When you run the driver to install it, be patient. It took over half an hour to install. Now I need Kies...
