Weird. Are you using Nova or some other 3rd party launcher, which may invoke a double-tap to wake up the screen? Alternatively, do you have "easy screen turn on" set to ON in Settings -> Accessibility -> Dexterity and Interaction? That allows screen wakeup with a hand wave over proximity...

I just tried with my Acer Chromebook 14 - same issue as others here. Prior phone (Moto G5 Plus) connected just fine and was able to use it to unlock the Chromebook. Something to do with BT 5.0 maybe??
