To the OP... like the others have said, sticking with the Google Play Store will keep you safe. Also, in the security setting make sure that "unknown sources" stays unchecked & "verify apps" stays checked. If you feel more comfortable using an antivirus though, don't let anyone or anything stop...

Is the battery bulging at all? Easy way to tell is take it out, put it on a smooth, flat surface & see if you can see space under the corners (also if it spins very easily). If so, it's sounds like time for a new one.
