Getting it frequently in messaging app since last Google Now update. Doesn't matter if I am using Hangouts or the new Messenger. I suspect Google Now but have not tired rolling back.

The only visible change I could see in Assist 2.6.1 was support for Lollipop downtime settings.

Thanks Bill! Worked for me. No need to downgrade Assist itor G+. Only side effect was losing all my home screen icons.

Thanks - that works, although unfortunately Google Now won't work with the stock app. :(

In all apps, I have "google app" with the blue G icon. The bottom to uninstall updates is disabled. Tried force stop, no change. How do I uninstall? Thanks!

Google Search does not appear in my list of Apps, so I can't uninstall the update?? (Running 4.4.4)

Same issues here. Were you able to uninstall part of the Google update to get it working again? Tom
