I just had a similar problem with a cracked Nexus 7 screen, so maybe this will work for you. I bought a OTG (on the go) cable which is a cable with a USB receiver on the end that plugs into the Nexus 7 micro USB port which I believe is the same size the Nexus 4 has (you can check). It was $8.99...

Suggested the USB option but see from posts doesn't work for N4. Bummer
