If this is the case, wouldn't this be mostly because Apple has been able to corner the market on discounted manufacturing costs over others (which seems to be changing now), plus the inflated prices on their products?

Depends on who you're asking. For me, it just didn't work in that area. The pics that were posted above are not a solid representation of what others are experiencing.
