Update: After contacting Samsung multiple times and after having been to 3 different "Samsung Service points", no one could help me and the only thing they could offer was that they would take our phones in and send them off to their technical specialists. Sadly, that is not on option for us...

Both my wife and I bought a Note 2 last week, and had exactly the same problem out of the box! The Dutch Samsung Mobile Helpdesk couldn't help me by phone and referred me to local Samsung Service Centers. They hadn't even seen a Note 2 before or heard , but were sure factory resets would fix...
