I know for the Note 4 and S5 you can turn off the setting to factory wipe your phone after incorrect attempts. Settings-->Lock Screen-->Uncheck Auto factory reset (at the bottom). But I still keep managing to factory reset it, even with the option unchecked. I must be hitting some button...
