Samsung got back to me on the repair. They'll replace the cracked glass and repair the overheating issue (didn't say how) for $237. I went for it. Hopefully I won't have to worry about it again, but the good news is that the original warranty is good again. Thanks again for your help B Diddy.

I am able to boot into download mode but Odin doesn't see the phone. I had used it with this phone before to root it but somehow is not working now. The PC does see the phone but just to charge it. I've tried different cables too. I think my next step is to have someone put a new power button...
