you can freeze apps using 'bloat freezer'. be aware if you freeze a system app, you can bork your phone. freezing them will essentially hide the app from being used and the icons will not show up. if you ever want to use it again you simply unfreeze it.

I see 3g+ when i have the H showing, when i have the G or E showing it shows T-Mobile "2G" I have yet to show the HSPA+ because they haven't rolled out 4g yet. all shown in "Android Status" downloaded from the market.
