I had this problem as well, no air rave. Had many text and VM which did not show up till I rebooted my phone!

I have change my car to Bluetooth audio and turn up the volume to hear the VM. 2011 Edge with MyTouch.

Mine still seems OK after switching the in-pocket detection on/off although I have had a couple call where just does not work so it is not totally fixed.

I am wondering how to do this as well, with my Evo I had to add the mail/sms icon from the widget menu to get the unread count bubble but I cant see to figure it our on the Photon.
