I contacted Google. I was impressed at quickly a live person came on the phone. In any case he walked me through doing a reset. I am now back up. I do have to reload my apps, but I can live with that. Thanks to all for the suggestions.

I just tried pushing it from the Play Store via my PC. The D/L failed. I do not know how to do a factory reset.

I am not able to get to the Play Store or to Chrome. Also now all apps cause the 'shut down'. I am able to connect via usb to my pc, but I am not familiar with the android os.

There no longer is the test message in the viewer. Once I clicked on it, my screen went to the image and the message was gone.
