I have rebooted the phone but I will do it again. I got the EMUI 8.0.0, don't know if that's the latest but I don't get there is no other so I guess it is. I am totally lost what it can be. It feels it's the aggressive battery saver but I don't think I have missed something there

I have a Huawei P20 Lite and hopefully, I am in the right section with this. I get a sound that I have a notification of some sort but when I light up the phone there is no visual notification. Also, it doesn't matter if I unlock it. There is still no visual notification. So what have I done...

I will take a shot in the dark here and say you have face unlock on and it's because you have something called "Smart lock screen notifications" on. You will find that setting in the Face unlock tab. So if you turn that off you will see the content again.
