I'm sorry I can't quite follow you. How exactly did you manage to give voice commands while in flight mode. Google Now would only tell me that google is not accessible right now due to flight mode and there fore refuse to take any commands at all. Did I miss something?

You're actually right, I'm sorry. In all my testing I haven't thought of trying to send a simple SMS.

Here's what I found out so far, beside the fact that assigning a vocal nickname works fine. I reckon you're right, there has to be an issue with the contact mapping between WhatsApp and Google. Probably not a local issue either. But an interesting point was, when I first encountered the problem...

Hi Mark I have exactly the same problem with my new Galaxy S7 Edge. I just signed up to tell you that I found a decent workaround. After a number of factory resets and cleaning my google contacts I always had it working in the first place, but once I reboot the phone the issue is reappearing...
