How did you install the Play Store? Did you install the whole Google framework?

For the biggest change was that Fire phone started to show emoticons (not all of them though). :)

The battery time is OK. With WiFi always tuned on it lasts for 24 hours, which is GOOD.

Fire phone unfortunately doesn't have LED notifications. With Google Launcher you are also stuck with the black background. Try installing a different launcher. Vire and Buzz launchers work quite OK on Fire phone.

You cannot change the wallpaper. You can only change the background scenes (lock screens). However, there are some launchers which support this feature (e.g. Vire Launcher).
