Based on my experience, my apps only update on restart. But you could try running google play on background. Hope this helps

Replacing old with updated system apps. It's good that manufacturers update their apps but every time I update my apps, my phone storage keeps running out. I was wondering if there's an app or a way that replaces your old system app with the updated one. Thank you in advance.
