Update: I called my provider's tech support and we figured out that if DND was enabled - whether as a schedule or just arbitrarily, that it would not sound the alarm despite it being configured to allow alarms only. So, that's annoying. :confused: Now I'm going to do some more digging to see...

I essentially had everything disabled except banking, browsing, maps, and WhatsApp. Whenever I needed an app (to check Facebook, for example), I'd just enable the data, then turn it off again. It really helped save on data use because FB alone can be huge.
