I am having the SAME issue. I was unlocked / rooted on JB through wugfresh. Then I got the Kit Kat OTA and downloaded it. It broke my root and custom recovery. Now, after I got Kit kat I decided to root again. Said I was still unlocked, but I kept getting that booting modiied boot image...

I drove around San Diego looking for one on Friday. I wish I would have known about the Sam's Club deal. Ended up paying $100 at the shack since the tax was more than the phone special. Not complaining, though. This phone is awesome.

Just got it....installing now. Let's see how it works. Not worried too much about front facing camera issues since I don't use Skype or Gtalk all that much.

Was it Kies full or Kies mini? And was the Gingerbread update out already?

Well, since it's not out yet, I probably wouldn't worry about it. It'll probably be done through Kies Mini or through download the update and flash through recovery. If it's done through Mini, then they'll update Mini to handle it.

Kies Mini says "Unregistered Device." It does pick it up as SCH-i800, but no luck over here. Usually when they roll out a major update like Froyo was for the Galaxy S line they do it through Kies / Kies Mini and there's usually a large update to those pieces of software..
