Try a search on Amazon for a Type C Wireless Charging Receiver. You'll need a third party cover to make it work. What your describing had nothing to do with Smart Stay. It's a feature that works with specific cases. I believe you are correct that the keyboard case does not work with that feature. It has to do with proximity sensor.

The Nougat (7.0) update finally dropped this morning on my Sprint Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 (SM-T817P) tablet.

It should, I've used an OTG cable and SanDisk 64GB micro drive to transfer video files between laptop and memory card on the tablet.

I order to use it with Gear VR you MUST remove it from case. The Gear VR is not case friendly.
