Karl, you hit the nail on the head. I've been using the USB3 cable that was shipped with the phone. This morning I swapped it out for a USB2 cable and the connection came up fine and I was able to connect as an MTP device.

No, there is nothing in the notification tray indicating that it is connected to a PC.

I've had my S5 for a couple of months now, and haven't been able to get it to connect via USB for file transfer. It will charge from the PC's USB port, but the phone doesn't recognize that it's connected to a computer, and there is no indication in the notification area that it's connected. On...
