Thanks Rukbat. The (both) cards are actually well readable in my laptop but I think you are spot on regarding the card reader. It is under warranty and is going back to Samsung! Bit of a pain, though.

Around a month ago my phone got extremely hot whilst wirelessly charging. The phone then started playing up with apps not working properly. I restarted it and it became obvious the extreme heat had fried the SD card. I took the card out and let it cool and it read some of the SD card apps...
