New ROM Manager is working good here, but because I'm nervous about updating certain apps I make a backup of them first with Titanium Backup. It's a nice way to rollback without reflashing a nandroid backup If the update doesn't work right. Great app for tons of other things too besides stuff...

Not sure exactly. I'm still fairly new to this. I've just read in several posts that not wiping it before flashing a new kernel can cause problems

You actually should wipe the dalvik cache before flashing a kernel. This option is located in the advanced menu on clockwork recovery

Someone on XDA pointed out that it's still there. Menu > More > Select Text Not as smooth as it was on Sense but it's there. Anyone have any feedback on my questions about the gallery, or viewing awake time?

This fixed it for me. I used MyBackup Pro to restore and it made this ROM run soooo much better on my phone than when I restored with Titanium
