Success! It took over an hour with 2 extremely capable people at Best Buy, but I got the full refund on my phone and my upgrade was reversed through verizon. I'm back to my LG G3 and will buy a new phone via Verizon when the new Note 7's are released.

I plan on heading back to the store for attempt #2 to return the phone in about 20 minutes. Will let you all know what happens.
