Mine turned out to be the proximity sensor. Called Verizon and they said they've had a few units do this. Sent me a new (reconditioned) phone and problem solved. That is the sensor that determines when the phone is lowered from the ear. Hope that helps.

After I complete a call my screen goes dark before I can exit the call. So I have a black screen and still connected to the caller without any way to exit. After pushing the on-off and waving phone I can get the screen back. Very frustrating. This did not happen until a couple of months ago...

Glad they fixed it. I agree with Hobbes - the other day I couldn't get mobil data nor the 3G icon even though it was turned on. When I shut off the phone and turned back on it was working fine. Phone has been great so far. Don't have 4G in my area.

Total time on 43 hrs., up time 35, battery still at 41%. Not on 4g/3g, just wifi. A few calls and text.

I can't dent the rim on my hd and it seems very stable. Wouldn't think the maxx would be any different but haven't seen them together.

Update: Phone began with a full charge yesterday at 5:30 P.M. Today at 10:00 A.M. I still have 67% of batt remaining. The full charge was after my initial phone set up. Since then the phone has been left turned on allowing only the 2 min. screen time out. 33 min. of calls, several texts...

I have seen some UV devices that you actually put the phone in, interesting but a little expensive. I think an occasional wipe with a damp not wet hand wipe would be ok on the phone. You are right about killing too many bugs but that is mainly excess use of antibacterial soaps and antibiotics...
