Wow, that was a lighting fast response! I realized that when I swipe left to exit Gmail, the screen refreshes in a manner that makes me think that the problem I'm experiencing is that the refresh is getting stuck and therefore it is not going away. Does that make sense? I was hesitant to reset...

I thought the problem was resolved, but it is still intermittent. So strange that it would occur on the old phone and the new phone. I did not reset all of the Gmail settings, but I guess that I will try that now.

Correct, it's just the message that overlays, making it impossible to read anything. I'll change the setting back to on. This is such a strange quirk.

I'm not sure. It wasn't occurring when I was booting into safe mode, but then again it didn't start up for some days after I did a factory reset on the phone. This is tricky.

I started uninstalling apps and restarting. Eventually I did a factory reset and installed some, but not all of, the apps I had. I'm now experiencing the same issue.

Oh, interesting. I see an option for Display Over Other Apps, but not Draw Over Other Apps. Would that be it? If so, there are a bunch of apps listed.

I do not have a screen protector. Thanks for the response and the link. At some point in the past, I tried safe mode to diagnose but never came to a conclusion. Would you suspect that another app is the culprit?
