Thanks. I am not so concerned about logging into Gmail via a browser but more with logging OUT in case an intruder (online or in person) accessed my phone. I usually use the app anyway. But I suppose a non-Google browser or Chrome Incognito would do if I needed browser access.

I think Spartacus is right and there is nothing I can do so as I am signed into Chrome. I think protecting Chrome with AppLock is the way. Google and others are always talking about security but they either make things too difficult or leave holes like this.

Thanks I think signing out of Google altogether is a bit much. I think that would mean losing downloaded videos and music from YouTube. I would prefer to simply disable sync for Chrome or to include Chrome under AppLock.

PS I have cleared site data (I don't use Google password manager) but this doesn't solve the problem. You can access the email by simply typing Gmail.com.

Thanks for your replies. I normally access Gmail email via the app. I used it in the browser the other day because I was under the impression (mistaken) that I could set up separate mail folders (as in Yahoo). This is unimportant now as the main concern is signing out of email for security...

I did the reset about 2 weeks ago. The new battery was only put in yesterday. Perhaps it needs more time to sort itself out. According to Device Care there are no app issues and there are. None issues in the last 30 days.

Usually the monthly security update for each month arrives about the 7th of that month. This month I have not yet received it. Is this indicative of Google not supporting the 6a any longer? I read on one their sites that they would provide security updates to 2027 (and Android versions to 2025)...

Thanks for your reply. I do usually move my finger around when inputting my fingerprint so as to simulate real world use. It is annoying that this thing is so fussy and at times downright useless. My Samsung 21 FE also has an optical in-screen fingerprint scanner and it is very reliable.
