If I won this phone, I'd use the credits to call my very close friend in Paris, France. I haven't talked to him since he moved. I'd also use the credits to call family in Canada and Italy. :D

Bad ESN phones will never be able to have service again until the previous owner's debt with Sprint is resolved. Other than that, yeah go with Google Voice & GrooVe IP. It'll be a wifi-only phone, but at least you can make calls and send/receive text messages.

Also keep in mind to buy an Evo with a CLEAN ESN. If you buy one with a bad ESN, then it cannot be activated on any other plan until the original owner clears up their debt with Sprint. As for the Evo, I think it'll be a great phone to last another year until your next upgrade. Around mid...
