+1. I made the switch from Textra (Paid) to Pulse SMS (Paid Lifetime) over a year ago, for the same reasons you describe, and I love it!

I haven't tried calling U-verse yet (my home ISP) but I'm not certain it will help since my office ISP is TimeWarner Business and the exact same issue persists there. :/
