The error dialogue box not showing is probably "Device is Unreachable."
The usual fix for this issue is:
1- Restart devices
2- On Android Enable USB-Debug on phone/Allow Data sharing. On iOS the usual fix is going to Settings>Photos>Transfer to MAC or PC(Last option)>Switch inbetween...
