So, if I'm understanding you correctly, if I put on TR, just refuse the updates, never use it, and then install the TR gingerbread instead of the OTA? Basically, if I root and don't accept any updates, I'm okay? Thanks so much for your help.

I couldn't see a section for the cache (it is turned on to show), but it says; Data: 164.9 MB Apps: 120.8 MB System Data: 20.2 mb Free Space: 23.8 mb (I removed a few apps recently). Is there a particular app's cache I should be looking at?

Got the update yesterday (unrooted phone), and much to my dismay, after it installed, I have something like 7 meg of internal space left. Are there undeleted install files somewhere that I can get rid of? Otherwise I'm gonna have to uninstall some stuff. Not happy 'bout that. thanks.

I've tried that same method for an unrooted Optimus S. It goes through all the correct motions, but no luck.
