Try a different USB port and see if your computer recognizes the usb device. I connected mine in firmware update mode, let the drivers install and then started kies mini.

Make sure you have the correct version of Kies mini. If you installed any previous versions then the update wont show up. try uninstalling kies mini and the drivers and try again.

Kies mini works fine on 64bit windows 7. The Samsung reps are wrong. I dont have a solution for your problem but an alternative would be to use the Gtalk app and have your contacts send messages. This way your contacts can still continue to use Gmail and you can get messages & notifications via the Gtalk app.

There are a few different ways. If you downloaded it from the android market you can open the market app, click on the menu key --> My apps --> Click on the app and it should give you the option to uninstall. Another way is to go to the Settings menu-->Applications--> Manage...

There is a 'Mobile network type' entry under the Settings->About Phone->Status menu. Most of the time I see UMTS or EDGE but I do get HSDPA on rare occasions.
