D Android you gave me the hint. The SSIDs were both hidden. I made them unhidden and now the phone gets the full bandwidth when I connect to the 5G band. Thanks to you and the others for your help!

The router is a DrayTek 2860ac, But I guess the same principle applies for any router. After all if I visit an office or store with ac wifi I can't ask them what router they are using :)

"You just need to connect to your new router to use the faster network." Er yes, but what do you mean by "connect"? The router has separate SSIDs for 2G and 5G. I can connect to either, but I'm only seeing that single band.

I've just got a new router that has ac wifi and can aggregate both bands for better coverage. How do I set up the Note 4 to use ac? The router has separate SSIDs for the two bands. Do I have to make them the same?

If you are concerned about ping times, then WiFi fed from fiber or even copper broadband will always be quicker than mobile data. Even with the tower in your backyard there are significantly greater circuit switching delays.

On my old Note 2, I found the Smart Network Switch was useless. It switched to Mobile Data when I left WiFi coverage, but didn't switch back to WiFi when it should. The phone worked better with SNS turned off. When I upgraded to the Note 4, I hoped this was sorted but no, SNS still doesn't...

I'm in the UK with an unlocked N910F, currently using in on EE A few days ago I upgraded to the German 5.0.1 using Odin. Had one minor issue that was my own fault, sorted with help from here :). Other than that, no complaints about the upgrade except that it seems to be a very minor change...

Re: Disabled too many Google apps I've done the cache wipe, no difference. If I start Play Store it just hangs at a plain gray screen. There are no disabled services. I tried that, per my edit above. This is looking very like I'm going to have to do a factory reset - not happy about that.

Re: Disabled too many Google apps Thanks for quick reply! Those three services all seem to be running - They all have a Disable button, not Enable. I can't see a Disabled Tab at all. Edit: As an experiment I disabled Google Play Services, and it appeared in a Disabled tab. I enabled it again.

Disabled too many Google apps I've just upgraded my N910F to Lollipop 5.0.1 using Odin, no problem there. Went through the Google apps to disable for things I don't use - Play Music, Play Books etc. I've done this before without a hitch, but this time its gone wrong. I must have disabled...
