What's your backup? Let's talk about it!

I traded in my 3A XL when I got my 4A but I still have my old Moto X4 as a backup. It was still getting security updates to the October 2020 one. Considering putting Lineage OS on it.

    Pixel 4a up for pre-order.

Very seriously considering it, especially since I think I saw that I can get a $135 trade-in value for my 3a XL through Google Fi. That would make it only $214 which is insane! Of course, in 5-6 months Fi will probably have it on sale for $300..

    Samsung's Crappy Update Policy.

Personally, updates are extremely important to me. That goes for both OS and apps. I obviously want the latest security updates, but bug fixes are also very important and I also look forward to and enjoy any new features and performance improvements, as well as just better user experiences...

    New Pixel 4XL user lost

While it's still a little quirky at times, after a day or two I started loving it and can't imagine going back to 3 buttons now, or even the pill. I really like the gestures, but I love the extra ¼" of screen real estate gained by losing the buttons too.

    Buy another Nexus 7?

Re: buy another Nexus 7? I actually just recently pulled my old 2013 Nexus 7 out and started using it again on a limited basis. Using it almost entirely to watch videos on Netflix, Hulu, etc. It's a little slow, but I uninstalled virtually all of the apps on it except for a few entertainment...

4a with possible hole punch display and rear fingerprint sensor?

The smaller bezels and faster processor are nice but I don't see anything to make me regret getting the 3a XL for 25% off a month ago instead of waiting several more months.

What are the new features of Android 10 you like best?

I definitely like the new gesture navigation system, both for its simplicity and the increased screen real estate. Also the more granular privacy and location controls.

    Any good car mounts?

I have been using an iOttie One Touch that mounts in the CD slot of the stereo for a year or more. I like it a lot.

How do you manually update a Chromebox?

That all jibes with what I knew as well. As I mentioned, I recently installed Gallium OS Linux on the original Asus Chromebox at work - mainly to connect a printer to Google Cloud Print. It's working well for that and is a great, much more compact replacement for an old desktop tower that had...

How do you manually update a Chromebox?

Regarding the article today (9/18/19) about the Asus Chromebox 3 being the best you can buy right now, you say "it's not hard to update them yourself after the official support is over". How does one do this? I've never read that anywhere before. I just acquired a new Chromebox 3 at work to...

Do I Really Need A New Smartphone

A long as performance is still tolerable, I can stand not being on the latest version of Android for a few months, but once it stops getting security updates it's time for a new phone pretty quick.

What do you like most about the Google Pixel?

I don't actually have a Pixel, but I'd I did the things I would love the most would be the same things I love the most about my Android One Moto X4 - the software and speedy, guaranteed updates - except even more so.

    What's your earliest Android OS?

Same for me! And I still have it.

    Music Player App

Google Play Music. Why not, since you can upload 50,000 of your own songs to it and then pin any you like for offline playback. Plus not have to manage local files on multiple devices, trying to keep the same songs on each one. One major weak point is that while it can also play local files if...
