I forgot to mention that a friend of mine has a Galaxy Note and used my headphones with no issue. Looking more and more like an issue with the phone :'(

My Firmware is Android version 4.2.2.

I have tried draining the power on both devices (phone and headset) and completely charging them back up and no change in behavior. Headphones are Plantronics BackBeat 903+, and I have the same issue with a Blueart ear piece. @kylie, What headset are you trying to use?
