It SMS. I use SMS to text friends and family. None of them use hangouts.

I found the version for my device but when I try to send an SMS it says SMS disabled. I think it is trying to send using mobile data but I want to use wifi.

I am using Hangouts now to send SMS messages but I wanted to be able to use hands-free via 'ok Google' but that does not work with Hangouts. I am not using mobile data just wifi. The new Google Messenger was made for 6.0. I do not understand why it won't let me install it.
