Did you try tethering? Their FAQs say they don't allow it. I'm wondering what will happen with them after the "Merger". They are using T-mobile's network, right?

I think I was able to reproduce your problem, however, I got the impression that the WiFi on the phone is pretty good (provided you don't hold your palm on top :-)). I tested two Lenovo W500 laptops and the MT4G sitting next to each other, all on WiFi and I tested them with speedtest.net, and...

It seems to me that those pins would hold a stable contact only if there is something pressing the phone against them, like a snap bracket on the top. Otherwise, it seems they might loose contact often.

Have you guys tried this - using the camera with max zoom as a magnifying glass. It works great! I've tried it several times, and even on the smallest print I could find, on a small eye drops bottle, the magnification was perfect - large and easily readable. I compared this to the 12 MP camera...

Best I've gotten, NE Cincinnati: 2-4 Mb is the usual I get here.
