I still have not received an email, my card hasn't been charged, and the FedEx reference number lookup show nothing--but, the order details page now shows my phone as 'Shipped.'

This may or may not mean anything, but I have noticed that previous orders (including my Nexus 4 and Nexus 5) display with the order numbers in gray. Maybe the change means that shipping has either already occurred, or is soon to occur.

This is rich. I just had a chat with a Google Store rep who told me that NO Nexus 5X phones were shipping until October 26.
