This happened to me as well a few times. On another forum someone said its a known issue but vzw and Samsung deny there being any issue. I would call vzw and let them know what's happening. May need to report it a few times before they ship you a new phone.

When I answer or while on a call my screen goes away. Is there a setting to keep the screen on? I tried pressing the power button and the volume buttons and nothing happens. I can't even hang up on the call cuz my screen is gone. I'm running Vicious CM10. Thanks in advance. Edit: Never...

Definitely root it. I've only had my Gnex for a couple of weeks and its even better with JB on it. I'm on Vicious JB as well but CM10 version.

After you unlock the bootloader, root, install clockworkmod, make a backup, then install a rom. I got all my info from droid-life.com. I personally haven't unlocked my GNEX yet but I did get my PC setup with SDK and got all my files ready to go. I'm just lagging....
