Well, I still have no idea what infrastructure mode is, but the instructions in that link worked like a charm. Will test with the iPad tomorrow.

OK, tried to tether the phone to an iPad. The iPad saw my phone, but didn't connect. GRUMBLE.

I was having this same problem with my Optimus S. Just rooted with gROM and the thing would not transmit properly over the WiFi Tether which came packaged with the ROM. I found the answer on this forum after Googling "wifi tether" infrastructure mode. I have no idea what infrastructure mode...
