Download DiskUsage and then post the results of the area where the supposed files are and we might be able to help

Have you tried removing the battery and putting it back in?

I used to have similar problems, and still do with some cables, I don't think there's any method to the madness. It doesn't see to be the battery as I have tried a few others. My advise is to keep trying with different combinations of cables and types of charging (wall, USB, car). --- Also...
