I'm OP. Yes, it's the only piece I have. After asking on Yahoo, I'm pretty sure I have the outer portion of the Note 3 case: Samsung Galaxy Note 3 case | Defender Series by OtterBox

Tried everything mentioned here and elsewhere and still no go. What I really wish is to downgrade to factory settings, since that was the best UI, but I can't even do that if it can't turn off.

How'd you manage that? I've also tried the Kies route to no avail. I figured the update only works when the tab can successfully shutdown, and it's a catch-22 when the the patch that's supposed to fix the current problem can't be installed because of the current problem.
