    Honestly, i'm no expert, but i have used "quick format" with size adjustments off. i think that might be default settings and it has worked every time for me.

    There's also another program called sd formatter that alot of people recommend that can be found here SD Formatter 3.0 for SD/SDHC/SDXC - SD Association it will give you back your space

    @ notam: If you mean the .gz file, right click and extract. pick a folder where you will keep the tools for this in a common place. if you have already extracted, the image file is what you will write to your sd card using Win32discimager.
