How would you go back to the previous update?

SIM card and ALL contacts, photos, calendar, everything that was saved on the phone gone when doing a factory reset. The update attacked the card I think and we lost everything, was told the reset would work and wouldn't affect anything on the Samsung website. DONT DO THIS !!! It might work...

Mega problems with the kitkat 4.4.2 update. Phone wouldn't receive calls. talked to some people who said the solution was to do a back up and reset on the phone. Several sites including samsung said this wouldn't affect the contacts or the SIM card. They were wrong. don't do this.

Okay so we did something really stupid Now after doing a back up and Reset through the settings menu. I am looking to recover the pictures and contacts on a phone. Is there a way to do this or not? I am desperately trying to find a way. Any help would be appreciated.
