I've tried using the google play website but it says it can't get a secure connection. The app just says it can't upload at all.

I've tried that, but the two libraries still look different. I used Android File Transfer program on my desktop to drag and drop the files from iTunes into my phone, but I also tried telling the desktop version to sync everything in my Music folder on my mac. Not sure which of those two things...
