Question? Are you running the latest version of lollipop 5.1,and have a GSP on your Nexus 6? If the GSP covers the proximity sensor (not cut around it) This is where your problem is coming from. I had a GSP on my Nexus 6 that covered the sensor since removing it and replacing it with one that...
