For those interested, I worked a way around this that worked well for me. I downloaded the Outlook App and this kept my exchange calendar and mail separate from the others and did not have the same issues of sharing settings when one calendar was changed. Outlook is much better than I expected!

Thanks chanchan. I have multiple calenders on my S5 phone. A google one, a samsung one, an exchange one. When I open up google calendar I only want to see my family's calendar so I turn off my work exchange one from there. I'd like to then just have work stuff on another calender but I open up...

Did anyone find a soulition to this yet? I have the same issue where I change the settings in one and then open the other one only to find it mirrors the settings of the other calendar.
